Just last week, I was in Busan, South Korea, attending RO-MAN 2023 for the first time. If you haven’t heard about this conference before, RO-MAN is one of the top conferences on human-robot interaction in the calendar year. Between sitting in outstanding conference talks and getting acquainted with South Korean culture (and food!), I had a very productive time. In our first meeting of RoboLab this Fall 2023 semester, I will share details about this conference trip. The photos below are there to instigate your curiosity.
On that note, it looks like we have a lot of interest in RoboLab this fall. We have people continuing from Spring 2023 and almost 30 new potential members. In our first gathering, I will welcome everyone who is joining us and give them an introduction to human-robot interaction and to what we do in RoboLab. In a nutshell, we will have a mix of interactive presentations and discussions. Sometimes, we will focus on academic papers. Sometimes, we will discuss what industry and various cultures are doing with robots. And yet other times, we will discuss robots in popular media such as movies, books, manga, anime, and TV series. If this looks like your cup of tea, we would love for you to join us. Meetings will be Mondays, 4pm-5pm, in Gardner (also known as Dana 113). Often enough, if not every time we meet, there will be some kind of refreshment.
